Criteria for Developing Organisation Membership

This category applies to kindergarten/prep classes, and pre-school/kindergartens, that are either affiliated with a Steiner school, or are independent, and meet the following criteria:

  • The school or centre is registered, licensed and complies with government regulations regarding accreditation standards, or is working towards the above.
  • The school or centre strives to deliver a Steiner program and demonstrates a commitment to working with Steiner early childhood educational principles.
  • The school or centre works visibly with Steiner early childhood pedagogical principles and strives to represent this educational impulse in the wider community.
  • Senior early childhood staff members working within the school or centre have a qualification or training in Steiner  education.
  • The kindergarten or centre is, or intends to be, functioning as a Steiner early childhood organisation, and, demonstrates viability in terms of finances, enrolment and staffing, all of which must be maintained for two or more years in order to achieve Full Membership.
  • The school or centre seeks to actively participate in Steiner early childhood regional meetings and conferences on an ongoing basis.

Criteria for Full Organisation Membership

This category applies to kindergarten/prep classes, and pre-school/kindergartens, that are either affiliated with a Rudolf Steiner school, or are independent, and meet the following criteria:

  • The school or centre is registered, licensed and complies with government regulations regarding accreditation standards.
  • The school or centre delivers a Steiner early childhood program.
  • The school or centre works visibly with Steiner early childhood pedagogical principles and is able to represent this educational impulse in the wider community.
  • Senior early childhood staff members working within the school or centre have received a qualification or training in Steiner early childhood education.
  • The school or centre has functioned as a Steiner early childhood organisation for more than two years, and has demonstrated its viability in terms of finances, enrolment and staffing.
  • The early childhood staff is committed to ongoing and regular study of Anthroposophy within their college orearly childhood faculty.
  • The school or centre actively participates in Steiner early childhood regional meetings and conferences on an ongoing basis.
  • The school or centre is willing to help carry the work of AARSECE within their region.

Organisation Membership entitles members to:

  • Information regarding upcoming Steiner early childhood conferences and events, nationally and internationally.
  • Invitations to AARSECE  early childhood regional and annual general meetings, workshops, seminars  and conferences in Australia.
  • Information regarding early childhood events, educational issues and developments in Australia and overseas.
  • Star Weavings e-newsletter.
  • Advice and/or assistance towards accessing support and professional development in the field of Steiner early childhood education and care.
  • Listing of the member school or centre on the register of AARSECE and on the AARSECE website.
  • Membership and listing on the International Association for Steiner Waldorf Early Childhood Education (IASWECE) register.
  • Financial discounts for one staff member, where offered, to attend AARSECE conferences or workshops
  • One vote from a staff member representing the school or centre in regional meetings or annual general meetings.
  • Access to early childhood mentoring that can assist with further developing Steiner early childhood education and care.
  • The kindergarten or centre has the opportunity and responsibility to support the ongoing work of AARSECE within their region.

Procedure to apply for Organisation Membership

  • Contact the early childhood regional representative in your area, or the registrar. All relevant information, including costs, application and assessment forms, will be discussed and provided after this initial contact.
  • The Application Form must be completed and submitted to the Registrar and the application payment of $400.00 made to the designated AARSECE account.

A site visit to the applicant school or centre will be organised between the school/centre and the regional representative of AARSECE or a delegated member. Areas to be observed include:

  • The school/centre’s delivery of a Steiner early childhood program 
  • The implementation and quality of Steiner early childhood pedagogical practices and care
  • The physical environment indoors and outdoors.

An appraisal report will be completed by the regional representative or delegate, with the cooperation and collaboration of the early childhood staff and the school leader. A copy of the draft report is provided to the school/centre for comment. The final copy of the report, with the recommendation for membership status, is provided to the committee of AARSECE for endorsement.

In accordance with the provisions of the AARSECE Constitution, status shall be granted by a majority of the AARSECE committee following the receipt of an application and the appraisal report.

An annual membership fee of $175.00 is payable for Developing Organisation Membership until Full Membership is attained.

Please note that different states and territories use different names for the early childhood classes. Children turn 6 in prep, kindergarten or year 1 minus 1 in a school. Children are aged between 3 and 5 in pre-prep, preschool, or kindergarten either as past of a school or as an independent organisation.

Your organisation will be contacted prior to the required site visit for a conversation with the regional representative or delegated person, outlining what the visit will entail, and detailing further information that will need to be provided.

In accordance with the constitution of AARSECE, membership status shall be granted by a majority of the Committee members following the receipt and acceptance of the appraisal report.
