ABOUT PAULENE
Paulene Hanna has enjoyed a long, professional career in primary, tertiary and then early childhood Steiner education. A special part of this professional career was spent firstly as a kindergarten teacher at the Melbourne Rudolf Steiner school and then at St Kilda Steiner Pre-school where she supported the founding body of parents who strove to establish this special form of early childhood education in their neighbourhood area.
Paulene was also for many years the editor of Star Weavings - the Australian Magazine for Steiner Early Childhood Education - contributing to it also with articles, photos, stories, circles, verses, etc. In addition, she taught and still is a guest teacher at the Rudolf Steiner Seminar in Melbourne and is often also, a workshop presenter at the biannual Vital Years Conferences.
Paulene is very happy to be invited to share the knowledge and understanding gained over so many years of working with playful children and their families. She believes that foundational to her work is continuing the study of Steiner’s philosophy of human development. This philosophy highlights the importance of the early childhood years as well as the significance of the caregiver role.
She is the mother of three grown children who attended the Melbourne Rudolf Steiner School and who have given her and her husband Trevor the ongoing joy of being grandparents to eight grandchildren.
Now retired from daily teaching. Paulene finds the time, alongside her ongoing mentoring support, to be more active in the wider community, where she can offer advocacy for children and their families. In this work, she acknowledges the challenges that parents and carers face in creating a healthy, happy play space for children in a very materialistic world.
