Freshwater Creek Steiner School is a vibrant, artistic, and inclusive Primary School and sessional kindergarten, situated on 24 acres of farmland near the beautiful Victorian Surf Coast. FWCSS currently has 200 children enrolled in kindergarten to Class 6.

We are seeking a Kindergarten Teacher to join our thriving Early Childhood program, from Term 2, 2024.

FWCSS Early Childhood comprises playgroups and two kindergarten rooms, which all follow Steiner Early Childhood Education principles.  Kindergarten programs are based on the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF).

Our kinder rooms currently run four days per week, with mixed age programs for 3-year-old and 4-year-old children.

  • This is a permanent 4 day per week, Teacher position.
  • Hours are 8.30am -3.30pm Monday to Thursday, with a half hour lunch break. Planning release time for planning and administration is provided. Some duties may need to be performed when students are not in attendance, including non-term weeks and on weekends.
  • Remuneration and conditions are based the FWCSS Agreement 2022.
  • Attendance at Staff and Faculty meetings is required. Membership of College is expected.
  • Regular appraisals with Head of School, and continual discussions with Early Childhood leaders and staff make for a collegial and harmonious workplace.

 

Essential criteria

  • Current qualifications as a Kindergarten Teacher.
  • Registration with Victorian Institute of Teachers (VIT), or eligibility to attain registration.
  • Training, experience, or knowledge of the principles of Steiner Early Childhood Education, and willingness to work according to these principles and continue this learning.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive kindergarten program that recognizes diverse needs and experiences of children and families.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the VEYLDF and the National Quality Framework (NQF).
  • Demonstrated theoretical and practical experience in the development of Early Childhood programs and fulfilling the administrative requirements of the Kindergarten Teacher position.
  • Commitment to Child Protection and the right of all people to work and learn in a safe and inclusive environment.

 

Preferred criteria

  • Recent experience as a kindergarten teacher, preferably in a Steiner Early Childhood setting.
  • A clear understanding of the Steiner principles of childhood development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience working as a team member and willingness to participate fully in a collegial workplace.
  • A willingness and ability to adopt Anthroposophical principles and engage in artistic activity.
  • Readiness to engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrable understanding of relevant policy and/or legislation pertaining to Early Childhood education in Victoria i.e. Student welfare, Child protection, Bullying, anti-discrimination, etc.
  • Commitment to the values and ethos of FWCSS fwcss.vic.edu.au
  • First Aid level 2.

  • Genuine interest in supporting children’s leaning and development children in a Steiner Kindergarten.
  • Collegial and supportive approach to working with the co-educator and the Early Childhood Faculty.

  • A willingness to deepen teaching practice through professional development and self-study.
  • Interest and commitment to the principles of Steiner Education and contributing to the school community. 

 

Key relationships: 

  • Kindergarten Teachers work closely with their Early Childhood colleagues, learning support and welfare staff. The position is accountable to the Head of School.
